The Disney World Dolphin Resort, Orlando is not only excellent for visiting Disney parks, but it’s also a fantastic place to hold events. With over 275,000 square feet of meeting space, including 2 ballrooms, the resort can accommodate very large groups with ease.

The resort boasts 75 event rooms, two executive boardrooms, two ballrooms, and 110,500 square feet of convention space. You’ll also find 128,200 square feet of lush outdoor space for events you wish to host outside in the open.

The Dolphin Resort is a great location for any major event, whether you’re planning a convention, a wedding, a conference, or a corporate business meeting. The hotel features 1514 luxurious rooms that make getting to the event easy while giving guests several activities to do in the hotel and nearby. With additional dining and catering services, everything is taken care of right on site.

Located on Lake Buena Vista, the resort offers gorgeous outdoor event spaces. With flexible event arrangements, you’ll even have a backup space in case the weather turns sour or a surprise storm rolls in. 

History of Disney World Dolphin Resort

The Walt Disney Dolphin Resort is located right on Lake Buena Vista, conveniently between two Disney Parks: Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It was first opened in January of 1990 and has since been merged into a Marriott International hotel and is operated by Tishman Hotel Corporation. As the hotel is still Disney branded, all guests receive special Disney benefits during their stay.

The Dolphin Resort was conceptualized in the 1980s when Disney realized they were losing business to local hotels. These hotels had a space for conventions and business meetings, while their hotels did not.

To combat the problem, Michael Eisner worked with the Tishman Group contractors to build a convention hotel right on the Disney campus. As the Tishman Group were contractors hired to build the Epcot center, they claimed they had the only right to operate a hotel on the grounds, and Disney agreed. Both groups shared a vision of the hotel and worked together to bring a brand new convention center to life.

Although Tishman owns the buildings and rents the land from Disney, Disney still receives a portion of the hotel’s revenue and has a say in architectural changes and design on both the interior and exterior of the hotel.

Geographic Location and Things To Do

There’s so much to do at the Dolphin Resort. For one, the hotel is located right next to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot, and with special Disney benefits, hotel guests get extra time to explore and enjoy the parks nearby.

At the hotel itself, you’ll find a full Mandara Spa and fitness center. You’ll also have access to four pools that include a grotto, a waterfall, white sand beaches, and private cabanas. Near the pools, you’ll find a volleyball court where you can start a match with friends or other guests.

When it’s time for meals, you’ll be spoilt with choices. There are 10 restaurant and lounge options where you can dine, snack, or enjoy a drink during your stay. You’ll find fine dining options but also casual places and poolside food bars. It all depends on what you’re in the mood for!

You can also explore the Fantasia miniature golf course, an arcade, jogging trails around Crescent Lake, and the Celebration Golf Club. If you have young kids, they can be dropped off at Camp Dolphin or take them to the playground.
